CYP International Ltd. is an imprint registered in London on March 12, 2007 by China Youth Press with generous support from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), London & Partners (the former Think London), the British Embassy in China, the Publisher’s Association, the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) of the PRC, the Chinese Embassy in the UK and the Information Office of the State Council of the PRC, etc. It is the first commercial publishing subsidiary established in the UK by a Chinese press. Mr. Liu Binjie, Director of GAPP, the then British Ambassador to China and the representative of UKTI all sent their congratulation letters upon its establishment.
 
With CYPI as the registered trademark and CYPI PRESS as its publishing brand, CYP International Ltd. (hereinafter CYPI for short) is committed to publishing and distributing books and other audio-visual products featuring Chinese culture, art, sceneries, tourism, contemporary Chinese society and international creative design to a global audience. It endeavors to unveil the real China to the world by virtue of visual arts. CYPI has also actively engaged in culture and art exchange activities between China and the rest of world, constituting a platform for disseminating Chinese culture and enhancing mutual understanding.
 
Having weathered the global financial crisis and difficulties incurred by the restructuring of the publishing industry, CYPI recorded its first profit in 2009, and has a return on investment (ROI) ratio of 20-30% in the past two years. Thanks to its effective integration of Chinese and British publishing resources, CYPI has well established its brand on the global market with its outstanding products. Meanwhile, CYPI has been introducing excellent British copyright to China. Given its success story of making overseas investment on publishing, CYPI has won acknowledgement and support from both the Chinese and British governments. Government bodies from both countries, such as GAPP, MOC, UKTI, have been supportive for CYPI with favorable policies and services. Officials from these agencies have also attended for many times the inauguration ceremonies of CYPI’s key titles. Director Liu of GAPP highly praised CYPI’s achievement during his visit to CYPI’s office in London. In April 2011, CYPI was granted the special award from GAPP and the Information Office of the State Council for setting up a good “going-out” example for the Chinese publishing industry. UKTI has also invited Mr. Guo Guang, General Manager of CYPI, to share experience with his Chinese counterparts on two separate occasions. The CYPI case study will also be featured at the Sino-UK Publishing & Media Industry Investment Forum, one of the China Market Focus activities at London Book Fair 2012.
 
In the past five years, CYPI has published nearly one hundred quality titles including China, Tibet, The Most Beautiful Chinese Classical Paintings, The Great Chinese Gardens, the Fantasy+ series, etc. Quite a few of them have entered five to six multi-language co-editions and global distribution programs with foreign partners. By virtue of a visual form appealing to foreign readers, these products convey the essence of traditional Chinese culture and present the rapid development of the creative industry in China and the world at large. The success stories of CYPI and its excellent products have been repeatedly and widely covered by influential Chinese and foreign media such as UK Chinese Times, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, People’s Daily, and China Press and Publishing Journal, etc.
 
With its continuous efforts in the past few years, CYPI has established a global distribution network covering Europe, North America and Asia, facilitating the presence of its products on mainstream global market. CYPI has forged partnerships with a series of well-established presses in the world such as Random House, Abbeville Press, Citadelles & Mazenod, Mondadori Electa, Jaca Book, Art-Rodnik, etc. It is also enhancing the presence of all its published titles in Europe through Publishers Group UK (PGUK), a British market leader in book sales and distribution, which is known for its carefulness in selecting partners.
